Street photography classes in NYC

Join our 2-hour virtual seminar on street photography, led by photographer and educator Marika Robak. Learn how to capture the energy and spontaneity of urban life and gain practical skills for photographing strangers with confidence. No cameras needed—just be prepared to watch and learn from anywhere!

In this seminar, we’ll explore the work of iconic street photographers, discussing what makes their images powerful—from composition to storytelling. You’ll watch short video clips of famous photographers in action and discover the practical aspects of street photography, such as preparing for a shoot, choosing equipment, and navigating the legal side of photographing in public.

Marika will also share her firsthand experiences, including how to approach strangers for street portraits and de-escalate tense situations. The seminar concludes with an open Q&A to answer all your burning questions. Whether you're new to street photography or looking to refine your approach, this session will leave you inspired to hit the streets with new perspectives and techniques.

By the end of the seminar, students will have a better understanding of the historical context of street photography, be able to identify their preferred style of the genre, and hopefully, feel inspired to get out and capture the bustling street life just outside their own front door.
